Dolphin IN Danger
What are dolphins?
Dolphins are a group of mammals that are adapted to live in the water. The bottlenose dolphins are the most common and well-known type of dolphins.
OMG Did you know……….….dolphins are very intelligent? Dolphins can communicate with each other by clicking, whistling and other sounds. They also have excellent eyesight and hearing. Using the ability of echolocation they dolphins can find exact location of objects.
Endangering our friends
Several dolphin species face the threat of extinction which is mainly caused by human activity. Some fishing methods, e.g. nets, can kill a large number of dolphins every year. Dolphins are exposed to threats such as pollution from the environment, climate change and harvesting animals, fruit and vegetables.
SeaWorld suffering
In the last 10 years, 62 dolphins have been accounted for that died in Sea World. Out of 62, 16 were still born babies. Not only are dolphins in danger but employers are also injured from the frustration and anger of the captured animals. Dolphins need their freedom to explore the never-ending sea but in enclosures they are confined by tiny tanks and concrete walls. The tricks we see as entertainment actually can fatally injure them if they go wrong. Captive dolphins are usually distressed from being stuck in a cage, causing them to injure themselves.
Dolphins cannot breathe out of their mouth but use a blowhole on the top of their heads to breathe.
Female dolphins are called cows, males are called bulls and young dolphins are called calves.
Dolphins are carnivores. They love their meat!
Animals are truly amazing! The dolphin is the only animal that gives birth with the tail first and the head following after so the baby doesn’t drown.
WOW have you ever seen that many dolphins before? There are at least 36 different species of ocean dolphins and 5 species of river dolphins.
